Over 250 million children remain out of school worldwide

Poverty, conflict and a lack of infrastructure limit access to basic education, particularly for girls in rural areas.

A recent report highlights global stagnation in access to education. According to international data, 258 million children and young people do not attend school, a figure that has barely changed over the past decade. Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for most of this problem, where nearly a third of primary-school-age children are out of school. The reasons are multiple, including forced displacement due to conflict, the lack of nearby educational infrastructure, child labour stemming from extreme poverty and socio-cultural norms that discriminate against girls.

Education is a fundamental pillar for breaking the cycle of poverty and promoting community development. Several NGOs are working intensively to provide scholarships, build schools and offer training programmes adapted to the needs of the most isolated communities.
